EXPEDITION #I ITINERARY
Trip dates: July 13-20th 2021. Total of 8 days / 7 nights.
Day 1: Arrival in Caracas.
The Expedition starts with an airport pick-up and welcome dinner in the city.
Dinner and overnight stay in a four star hotel in downtown Caracas.
Day 2: Exploring Caracas.
Full-day exploring Venezuela’s lively capital. We’ll visit the city’s most famous landmarks, walk around the Old Town and see Bolivar’s house, as well as the daily lives of local Caraqueños. We’ll venture into a Barrio, humble neighbourhoods where street art and culture takes over, and we’ll wander to the best viewpoints in town. From there, we will experience some of the quirks of Venezuela like its super inflation and almost free gas. Of course, when in Caracas, we’ll have time to feast on the best Venezuelan gastronomy.
Dinner and overnight at our four star hotel in downtown Caracas.
Day 3: Laguna de Canaima & Sapo Falls
In the early morning our Expedition heads to Maiquetía Airport, to catch a small charter flight to the rainforests of Canaima NP, where the infamous Salto Angel Waterfall lies. Upon our arrival in Canaima, we will settle in our comfortable lodge and venture out to explore the Lagoon of Canaima, as well as Sapo Falls, a great appetizer of what’s to come in the next few days.
Dinner and overnight camp at our Canaima Lodge.
Day 4: Journey to Angel Falls.
After a delicious Venezuelan breakfast, we’ll start our journey to Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the World, towering at 979m over the forests of Canaima. It will be a river expedition that will take a few hours crossing the incredibly photogenic jungles of Canaima, rich in biodiversity. After a short hike, we’ll reach the base of the falls, where we will overnight. Usually tours go back to the lodge on the same day, having just a brief visit in Angel Falls. However, we’ll try to maximize our time at the falls and enjoy a sunset and sunrise there. A night you’ll never forget under the stars, the falls and the sounds of the jungle!
Dinner and overnight in an adventurous hammock camp at the base of Angel Falls.
Day 5: Angel Falls and Canaima.
After breakfast, we’ll make our way back to Canaima following the course of the winding rivers coveted by the jungle canopy. A cruise you’ll always remember! On arrival at the lodge, we’ll feast and celebrate and attend a Pemon Indigenous cultural show.
Dinner and overnight our Canaima Lodge.
Day 6: Canaima & Caracas.
We’ll enjoy an easy morning, with a much needed downtime after our Canaima adventures before catching our private charter flight back to Caracas. In the city, we’ll go out for dinner and if the situation permits, find a nice rooftop bar for a toast or two.
Overnight at our four star hotel in Caracas.
Day 7: Choroni NP.
In early morning we take a boat from Maiquetia to the beach in Choroni NP. It’s close enough to Caracas but it will feel like a different World. The beaches here are wild and jungly, with just a handful of local inns. We’ll explore them all day long and swim and snorkel in the Caribbean waters of Venezuela, another gem in this rich Latin American country.
Dinner and overnight at a four star inn.
Day 8: Choroni NP & fly out.
We have ample time to stretch our last day at the beach and bask under the balmy Caribbean weather. Our adventure is not over, since we’ll be taking a boat back to Caracas instead of the road we came in. It will be the perfect way to finish our Expedition, cruising along the Venezuelan coastline.

Dinner and overnight at our four star hotel in Playa El Yaque.
Day 3: Wandering the island.
Full-day exploring Isla Margarita’s wonders. From it’s photogenic beaches to water activities and rich culture, we’ll explore the island’s highlights: Porlamar, Pampatar, La Asunción, Playa Parguito. Whats the difference between Expedition I and II?
Asides from the obvious difference in dates:
- Expedition II offers 2 days more in the country. Essentially, one extra day goes to Canaima NP and another to the Caribbean.
- Expedition II offers Isla Margarita instead of Choroni NP. The drive and ferry there will be quite interesting culturally too. Whereas Choroni is a shorter beach break, but has an interesting boat cruise back.
- Expedition II will have Caracas on a flexible week, which means less restrictions and more places will be open.
- Expedition I offers the highlights of Venezuela, whereas Expedition II goes a bit more in depth and will benefit from the extra time together.
